WA Welcomes Offshore Applicants and Many New Occupations in 2022–23

Western Australia (WA) is reopening to the world with a bang! WA has released their latest state nomination criteria for the Skilled Nominated (subclass 190) and Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (subclass 491) visas in the 2022–23 program year. From the first week of July 2022, applicants residing overseas will now be considered for WA state nomination. The Graduate stream’s Graduate Occupation List has also been significantly expanded to include over 330 occupations.

Ripper! Do I need to do anything different if I’m based overseas?

The usual processes to apply for the 190 and 491 visas have not changed. Applicants will need to seek nomination from either ‘Western Australia’ or ‘any state or territory’ within the SkillSelect system. Nomination invitations from WA will now follow this ranking system: preference is given to those residing in WA, followed by those residing in Australia and finally those residing overseas.

Which occupations are new on the Graduate Occupation List (GOL)?

Many, many, many occupations have been added! For example, the Acupuncturist; Ambulance Officer; Anaesthetist; Analyst Programmer; Apiarist; Aquaculture Farmer; Arborist; Architectural Draftsperson; Architectural, Building and Surveying Technician (Not Elsewhere Classified) and Arts Administrator or Manager occupations are now on the GOL. This means that once the usual WA study and Graduate stream requirements are satisfied, these added occupations would be eligible for nomination by WA in the 2022–23 program year. Those are just the occupations that begin with A! The full GOL can be found here.
