More Designated Regional Areas in Queensland to Incentivise Skilled Migrants

Are you considering moving to a warm regional area while still working towards permanent residency? If so, the Australian government has just made it easier for you by adding more postcodes in Queensland that are deemed as regional Australia for migration purposes. This enables employers in such areas to hire skilled migrants in sectors that are in high demand.

Which postcodes have been added?

4019 to 4022, 4025, 4037, 4074, 4076 to 4078, 4300 to 4301, 4303 to 4305, 4500 to 4506, 4508 to 4512, 4514 to 4516 and 4521. Many of these suburbs are situated within the Moreton Bay and Ipswich regions in Queensland and include Silkstone, Mango Hill and Ocean View just to name a few.

Which visas will be impacted by these changes?

Here are some visas that would now be directly affected by the added postcodes:

  • Second Temporary Graduate (subclass 485) visa in the Post-Study Work stream;

  • Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (subclass 491) visa;

  • Business Innovation and Investment (Permanent) (subclass 888) visa;

  • State/Territory Sponsored Business Owner (subclass 892) visa; and

  • Various visas that involve nominations.

These other visas would also indirectly or eventually be impacted by the changes:

  • Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) (subclass 494) visa; and

  • Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) (subclass 191) visa.
