IELTS One Skill Retake Has Been Launched in Melbourne!

Have you been retaking that dreaded English test over and over (and over) again just to attain your desired score for the skilled 189, 190 or 491 visas? In a bid to assist test-takers, the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) has introduced One Skill Retake in Melbourne, Victoria from 14 December 2022!

Sounds exciting! What is IELTS One Skill Retake?

IELTS One Skill Retake (OSR) allows a test-taker one more chance to retake one of the four components (Listening, Reading, Writing, or Speaking) of the IELTS test if they only needed to improve just one area and had already achieved the required scores in the other three areas. This means that you don’t have to retake the entire IELTS test if you only wanted to improve the score of one of your components!

You must sit for the OSR within 60 days of your original test and use the same valid identification document. After completing the OSR, you will receive a new Test Report Form. You may decide to use your new or old Test Report Form for your visa application.

Fantastic! Can I use IELTS One Skill Retake for any visa application?

The Department of Home Affairs will accept OSR test results for most Australian visas except for visa subclasses 476, 482 and 485. These three subclasses still require IELTS test scores from a single attempt and OSR cannot be used for them.

Is there anything else I should know?

The new IELTS feature is now available at the IDP Melbourne test centre and will be rolled out across other Australian test centres in early 2023.

OSR currently costs $259 in Melbourne. Importantly, OSR is available for both the Academic and General Training IELTS tests.

I understand, so how can I fulfill my dream of staying on in Australia?

We will be more than happy to assist you! Just get in touch with our friendly team via our website. Once you do that, sit back and relax as we guide you through the entire process of applying for the relevant visas!
