What Is the Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190)?
The subclass 190 visa is a permanent residency visa for skilled workers who are nominated by an Australian state or territory. If nominated by Victoria, visa holders commit to living and working in Victoria.
Basic Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for Victorian skilled visa nomination, you must meet both:
- ✅ All Australian Government (Department of Home Affairs) requirements for the subclass 190 visa
- ✅ All Victorian Government nomination requirements for the subclass 190 visa
Who Can Apply for Victorian Nomination?
You may be eligible to apply for Victorian Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) nomination if you:
- Are living in Victoria or overseas
- Are committed to living and working in Victoria
- Have had your Registration of Interest (ROI) selected
- Are under 45 years of age at the time of nomination
- Have at least Competent English
- Hold a valid skills assessment in an occupation on the eligible skilled occupation list
- Have achieved at least 65 points on the SkillSelect points test (including 5 points for state nomination)
How to Apply for Victorian Nomination (Subclass 190)
Step 1: Check Your Eligibility
Ensure you meet all requirements for the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) and Victorian nomination criteria.
Step 2: Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI)
Create or update your EOI in SkillSelect with the Australian Department of Home Affairs. (Access our latest invitations via this link.)
Step 3: Submit a Registration of Interest (ROI)
Using your EOI number, create an account on the Live in Melbourne portal and submit an ROI for Victorian nomination.
⚠️ An ROI is not a visa application and does not guarantee selection.
Step 4: Lodge a Nomination Application
If your ROI is selected, you will be invited to submit a nomination application through the Live in Melbourne portal.
Step 5: Apply for the Visa
Once nominated, you must lodge your subclass 190 visa application with the Department of Home Affairs.
Living in Victoria – Onshore Applicants
If you are applying from within Australia, you must be living in Victoria at the time of nomination.
- ROIs from applicants living interstate generally not considered
- Limited exceptions may apply for border communities
Employment While Living in Victoria
- You do not need to be employed to be eligible
- There is no minimum work experience or hours requirement
If you are working in Victoria:
- Your employer must be physically located in Victoria
- Virtual or proxy offices do not qualify
- Your employment does not need to match your nominated occupation
- Earnings can only be claimed if they are from skilled employment in Victoria
If you are unemployed, working in non‑skilled roles, or employed by an interstate employer:
- You can still apply
- You cannot claim earnings in your ROI
Living Overseas – Offshore Applicants
If you are applying from overseas, you are eligible for Victorian nomination provided that you demonstrate a genuine commitment to living and working in Victoria.
- Offshore applicants are not required to claim earnings in their ROI
Commitment to Victoria
- You must show a genuine intention to live and work in Victoria
- State nomination cannot be transferred to another state or territory after grant
Registration of Interest (ROI)
- Submitting an ROI is mandatory
- Only applicants with selected ROIs can apply for nomination
- Selection is competitive and discretionary
Age Requirement
- You must be under 45 years of age at the time of nomination
(Department of Home Affairs requirement)
English Language Requirement
- You must have at least Competent English
- At the time of nomination application, your English test must have at least 12 weeks validity remaining
- Expired English test results cannot be accepted
Skills Assessment Requirements
- You must hold a valid skills assessment in an occupation on the eligible skilled occupation list
- Your nominated occupation must match your SkillSelect EOI
- Your skills assessment must have at least 12 weeks validity remaining at nomination stage
- Health professionals must align their occupation with AHPRA registration
SkillSelect Points Test
- You must score at least 65 points, including:
- ✅ 60 base points
- ✅ 5 points for state nomination
