PR Pathway for 482 Short-Term Stream Visa Holders Confirmed and Does the TSMIT Increase Apply to You
Many new migration policies are coming into effect from 1 July 2023 and here’s a quick rundown for those of you interested in the Temporary Skill Shortage visa (subclass 482). Importantly, permanent residency pathways will be available for all streams of the 482 visa!
- Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) will increase from $53,900 to $70,000 from 1 July 2023
- New 482, 494 and 186 employer sponsored applications from 1 July 2023 must include a salary of at least $70,000 or the annual market salary rate, whichever is higher
- This change does NOT affect existing 482, 494 and 186 visa holders and nominations lodged before 1 July 2023
- By December 2023, the Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) stream of the 186 Employer Nomination Scheme that leads to permanent residency (PR) will be available to all 482 Temporary Skill Shortage visa holders
- Applicants must work for their sponsoring employer for 2 years (instead of 3 years) in their nominated occupation before becoming eligible for PR under the TRT stream
- All other nomination and visa criteria for the TRT stream must still be met
- The limit on the number of 482 visa applications (Short-Term stream) an applicant can make onshore will be temporarily removed
